Where have all the Poets Gone?

In the 1800’s and prior, poetry was a main stay in many family households. Poems would be passed down from generation to generation. There were many famous philosophers as well as poets. I have been trying to conjur up, how we as a people have lost our poetic lust.  After very little contemplation, I had the answer that makes perfect sense, to me. Millions and millions of music cd’s are sold and that to me, represents that we have not forgotten prose. There are those who listen to music for the rhythm or the beat. There are many others who listen to the lyrics because they apply to themselves or a given situation. It does my heart good to know that so many of us are still poets at heart.
